In Plain Sight
In Plain Sight, is an illustration-led appreciation of British bird life across various UK environments. It responds to the idea that wildlife is often present but overlooked in familiar environments, and that illustration can be used to draw attention to these quiet, everyday encounters with nature. This project is informed by a wider interest in environmental awareness and public engagement with wildlife, influenced by organisations such as the RSPB and WWT.
We share our everyday spaces with wildlife, whether that be our gardens, our work commute or on the dog walk. Considering this, we fail to truly notice and appreciate them. Through familiarity, nature and wildlife become part of the background, even though they exist mostly in plain sight.
This project directly responds to this disconnect.
By focusing on one bird within each habitat, In Plain Sight encourages a slower, more attentive way of looking. It aims to highlight the beauty, individuality, and significance of species that are often overlooked, fostering a renewed appreciation for the wildlife that exists alongside us every day.
