The Journey of the dodgy hotdog!
The Journey of the Dodgy Hotdog is part of my Graphic Arts Research Project (GARP). My GARP consists of a dissertation about medical illustration and the benefits of it in medical education. From my research, I developed a practical project that reflected the research I had conducted. I chose to develop a children’s book proposal that explores what happens in the body during food poisoning. The story follows the journey of a dodgy hotdog that has been laying in the summer sun for hours. The story then shows the journey through the body, showing what would happen if a ‘dodgy hotdog’, entered the body.
The book features fun, colourful illustrations that both educate and entertain. The project was designed as a concept, featuring a potential learning pack and pull out elements to promote interactivity. I believe medical education is really important for children not only to potentially eliminate fear but also for bodily autonomy. I really enjoyed the entire process of making this book and would really like to pursue it further in my career.
