‘Underdogs’ book cover proposal
During my final year at university, my peers and I were given the opportunity to propose a book cover for an upcoming book, Underdogs, published by John Murray books. The story by Louise Powell, is set in the underground greyhound racing scene of post-mining, working-class 90’s Durham. I loved working on this and though my entry was not successful, I learned a lot and really enjoyed the process.
It was really fun to have access to an early copy of the book and brainstorm ideas and analyse the book looking for details I could include. I chose to use charcoal and oil pastel as I wanted to reference the gritty, colourful, messy world that the child protagonist lived in.
